Titletown had many memorable moments in the sports world this year.
From the much deserved Banner 18, to the Bruins’ centennial game where they beat the Montreal Canadiens on home turf, the Patriots drafting a star rookie quarterback, and familiar faces joining forces for an oh-so-Boston Super Bowl commercial, it is safe to say that the city had a pretty good run in sports this year.
In true end-of-year fashion, we asked readers to reflect on some of their favorite moments in sports over the past year. Obviously, the Celtics bringing home the championship was a top highlight, not to mention the parade brought in an estimated one million fans to celebrate from Causeway Street to the Hynes Convention Center.
“Are you kidding? #18!!” wrote Charlie from the North Shore.
“All of Pay Day Pritchard’s 3 point shot moments in the 2024 season. Wrapping up the win for 2024 and now kicking off the 2024-2025 season he is incredible. When he goes into the game you feel that Prtiching Hour energy,” wrote Tamara W. from Cambridge
“Anytime the Boston sports teams defeat any so-called New York (when some are actually New Jersey) teams. Of course it is best when Boston teams win, but there is almost the same satisfaction when NY/NJ teams lose to anyone,” wrote Bob from Auburn, Maine.
Like every New Year, there are goals that we aim to achieve. For sports fans, they hope our teams can continue to show the world why we are Titletown, and more specifically, redemption for the Pats.
“A REPEAT, the Bruins and Red Sox to win the championship 🏆!! And, the Patsies to improve the last 3 games!” wrote one reader about what they hope to see in Boston sports next year.
“I hope to see the Pats improve, the Sox leadership attempt to compete, the B’s win a series or two, and the Celts repeat!” said Paul L. from Pinehurst, North Carolina.
“All teams being contenders. We have the best home field advantage in all sports, us fans,” said Bob from Auburn.
As we hit rewind on all that Boston’s teams achieved this year, here’s what readers had to say about their favorite moments and what they hope to see next.
“Banner 18! Celtics reestablish themselves as [the] best franchise in [the] NBA. Tatum & Brown finally get it done.”
– Bob, Boston
“Merry Christmas 🎄🎁!! My FAV moment: when the Celtics won their 18th — moving ahead of the fakers. Were it not for Tyson Chandler’s injury, my Celtics would’ve beaten [them] in May 2010!!”
– Anonymous
“The Celts winning their 18th title because I didn’t think we’d be winning anything for a while except for maybe the Green. They have maintained a very likable group of guys, including both stars and the ultimate team players in White, Holiday, and Pritchard. Thank you Celtics!!!”
-Paul L., Pinehurst, NC
“Bill Belichick hired by UNC.”
– Hakeem, Cambridge
“Payton Pritchard’s 3 point shot at the 2nd quarter buzzer in game 5. Look at the faces of the Maverick’s players, they knew right then the series was over.”
– Chuck, Haverhill
“The Celtics 18th NBA title. By bringing the title back to Beantown and being a really young team.”
– Joe M., Medford
“18th Boston Celtics NBA championship. My mom who passed in October 2023 had season tickets when she was young and watched Bob Cousy and the 1956/57 Celtics win their 1st at the Old Garden. In the 90s, mom had half season tickets as she followed the Celtics for years.”
– Kevin, Tampa
“Banner 19!”
– Bob, Boston
“Another Celtics win in spring/summer 2025. Go Celts.”
– Tamara W., Cambridge
“4 Titles!”
– Charlie, North Shore
“Mayo, Don Sweeney and Cam Neely Fired!”
– Hakeem, Cambridge
“Fire Jerod Mayo, bring in Vrabel and go at least .500 next year.”
– Chuck, Haverhill
“Another Celtics Championship is the most realistic.”
– Joe, Westwood
“The Patriots playing competitive football again. The Celtics repeating, Bruins bringing the Cup back to Boston and the Sox competing again.”
– Joe M., Medford
