Two months after revealing his shocking cancer diagnosis, Randy Moss returned to ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” on Super Bowl Sunday.
“I couldn’t do it alone,” an emotional Moss said on Sunday morning’s broadcast. “It’s been hard, but I got a lot of love and a lot of people believing in me, man, so I’m happy to be here.”
“NFL Countdown” aired live from the Superdome in New Orleans, where the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will face off in the evening in Super Bowl LIX.

Moss, 47, detailed his cancer diagnosis in an emotional Instagram Live video on Dec. 13, just a week after ESPN announced the Hall of Famer-turned-broadcaster would take an extended leave of absence due to an undisclosed health issue. The former wide receiver said he had a six-day stint in a Charlotte-area hospital following a six-hour surgery to treat cancer found in the bile duct between the pancreas and the liver.
“Your boy is a cancer survivor,” Moss said before thanking his family, doctors and supporters. “Some trying times, of course, but we made it through. And, for that, I thank you all.”
Moss also shared that he had a stent inserted into his liver on Thanksgiving due to complications from his condition and would undergo radiation and chemotherapy to treat the cancer. He did not specify when he would return to ESPN but said he hoped to rejoin the crew “soon.”
Last week, Moss appeared on the NFL Honors broadcast in a video announcing Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as the Comeback Player of the Year. In the video, Moss wore a “Team Moss” hoodie and hat from the apparel line he started to benefit cancer research.
