Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla will represent India as an Executive Board Member on the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Board. Shukla will take over a vacant spot that emerged after Jay Shah stepped down as president of the governing body of continental cricket, the Indian cricket board announced on Friday, March 7.
Meanwhile, former BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar has been appointed as the BCCI representative on the ACC Board as an Ex-Officio Board Member.
Jay Shah vacated the ACC presidency in December 2024 after serving three consecutive terms. The Indian cricket administrator, who was also the BCCI secretary, was elected unopposed as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. Shah officially assumed the ICC chairman role on December 1, 2024.
“With Mr Jay Shah taking over as the Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC), his position on the ACC Board became vacant. Until recently, he was the President of the ACC. Mr Rajeev Shukla will now represent the BCCI as an Executive Board Member on the ACC Board,” the BCCI said in a statement.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia extended his best wishes to Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar for their new roles as representatives of the Asian Cricket Council.
Following Jay Shah’s departure, Sri Lanka Cricket Board chief Shammi Silva took over as the president of the Asian Cricket Council.
Rajeev Shukla is expected to play an influential role in the ACC. Recently, he visited Lahore to watch the Champions Trophy semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa as the BCCI’s representative.
During a press interaction in Lahore, Rajeev Shukla was asked about the resumption of bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan.
“As far as bilateral cricket relations between India and Pakistan are concerned, the decision is in the hands of the government. Whatever the Government of India tells us, we will follow that. Moreover, it is the policy of the BCCI-and I believe it would be the same for the PCB as well-that any bilateral series should take place on either country’s soil. It should not be played at a neutral venue; this has been a consistent policy of the BCCI,” he said.
The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format, is scheduled to take place in the UAE in September 2025.
