The Las Vegas Raiders‘ rushing attack is off to a terrible start to the season, with Las Vegas averaging a putrid 49 yards per game over its first two, the worst mark in the NFL.
That lackluster production is not on Zamir White or Alexander Mattison, though, as the offensive line has been bad, leaving both with little space to operate. Head coach Antonio Pierce made it quite clear he still believes in White.
Despite that fact, ESPN’s Dan Graziano still believes the Raiders could be in the market for a running back at some point, and he thinks Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce could be an option for them.
The 2022 fourth-round draft pick has been replaced by free agent signee Joe Mixon and potentially also Cam Akers. Pierce (hamstring) isn’t healthy at the moment, but once he is, he could be a cheap option for a team with a need at running back. He ran for 939 yards as a rookie just two seasons ago.
Potential landing spot: Las Vegas Raiders. They’re trying it with Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, and so far, the offensive line isn’t helping either of those guys much. If the Raiders can stay in the race, they might be looking to add here.
A former fourth-round pick of the Texans in 2022, Pierce got off to a promising start to his career with over 1,100 yards from scrimmage in 13 games during his rookie campaign, including 939 yards on the ground.
However, he was incredibly disappointing last season, with the Florida product tallying just 416 rushing yards and 101 receiving yards in 14 games. As a result, the Texans decided to trade for Joe Mixon and also signed Cam Akers, burying Pierce, who is currently injured, on the depth chart.
Knowing what we know about Pierce, it wouldn’t make any sense for the Raiders to bring him in, unless he knows a magic spell to help the offensive line block better.
At best, Pierce would be a lateral move for Las Vegas, thus it wouldn’t make any sense for them to give up draft capital to acquire him.
