Radiologist is among America’s 100 “best jobs” in 2025, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report.
The specialty came in at #77 on the list, which is based on factors such as growth potential, work-life balance, job safety, employment rate and salary. Radiologist also ranked as #27 on the Best Health Care Jobs list and #7 among the “Best-Paying Jobs” with a median salary of $239,200.
Nurse practitioner headlined both the healthcare and overall jobs lists for the second year in a row, given its high demand and growth trajectory.
“Careers in healthcare and healthcare support continue to show promise in the 2025 rankings due to a steady need for medical professionals that aid in the health and well-being of the population,” Carly Chase, VP of careers at U.S. News, said in a statement shared Jan. 14. “Nurse Practitioner maintains the No. 1 spot as this year’s best job because of its critical role in health management, the flexibility it provides and its strong 10-year career outlook.”
Other imaging-related jobs also made the best healthcare and overall jobs lists, including diagnostic medical sonographer (#20 in healthcare and #62 overall, with a median salary of $84,470) and radiologic technologist (#31 in healthcare and #91 overall, with a median salary of $73,410). Radiation therapists (#41, $98,300) and technologists in MRI (#38, $84,740), cardiovascular care (#43, $66,170), and nuclear medicine (#44, $92,500) also made the healthcare list.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 3.6% employment growth for radiologists between 2023 and 2033, U.S. News noted. During that period, an estimated 1,200 jobs in the specialty “should open up.” The website also rated the specialty as “average” in terms of upward mobility, “above average” in stress levels, and “below average” in flexibility.
U.S. News utilized data from the BLS to pinpoint careers with the greatest hiring demand. It scored careers using five different categories, including wage potential, employment, future prospects, comfort and work-life balance. You can find more about the methodology here.
