Recent statistics from Qatar Tourism indicate that in 2024, the country reached unprecedented heights in its tourism sector, with total revenues soaring to QAR40 billion ($10.9 billion). The number of visitors surged to almost 5 million, marking a 25 percent increase from 2023.
The data reveals that Qatar’s tourism industry experienced a significant 38 percent boost in overall spending compared to the prior year. Additionally, the hospitality sector achieved a remarkable milestone by recording 10 million hotel nights for the first time in history, with forecasts suggesting an extra 35,000 nights by the end of the year.

Qatar Tourism also highlighted its organization of over 100 business events, 120 entertainment activities, and 80 sports events throughout 2024. Notable highlights included hosting the AFC Asian Cup, the Qatar Grand Prix for Formula 1, and a flourishing cruise season for 2024–2025, all of which attracted considerable visitor interest.
GCC nationals represented 41 percent of the total visitors, while the remainder came from a diverse range of international markets. Saudi Arabia led the list of source countries, followed by India, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.
In terms of entry methods, 56 percent of visitors arrived by air, 37 percent by land, and 7 percent by sea, underscoring ongoing improvements in access and connectivity.
Saad Al-Kharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism and Visit Qatar, commented that surpassing the 5 million visitor milestone underscored the effectiveness of the nation’s tourism strategy. He noted that the 25 percent annual growth was a testament to their commitment to enhancing the tourism sector and achieving ambitious goals, including doubling visitor numbers and increasing tourism’s contribution to GDP by 2030.
Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, attributed these achievements to the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders. He further mentioned that Qatar had established itself as a global leader by hosting major international events and launching innovative initiatives, expressing optimism for a promising future for the tourism sector.
