Paris, France: Nada Mohammed Wafa, two-time Olympian and the first Qatari female swimmer to compete in the Olympic Games, took part in a runway fashion show at the prestigious “Parity Paris” event to celebrate the historic milestone of the distribution of 50/50 quota places at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Hosted by four-time Olympian and former IOC Executive Board Member Angela Ruggiero, Parity Paris honoured Paris 2024 with a groundbreaking fashion show featuring 24 Olympians and Paralympians who promoted the empowerment of women across the sports industry and marked the gender equality progress to date.
Speaking following the walk, Nada said:
“I am delighted to have taken part in this flagship event alongside so many iconic and inspiring female athletes. However, today of course is not just about women but also the role that men and women can play in creating a more equal world. It is fantastic to use this opportunity to celebrate Paris 2024 and the vital step forward that has been taken in achieving gender equality in sport.”
The celebration took place at the Palais Garnier in Paris and marked the first to feature only female athletes in the global capital of fashion. The athletes walking along with Mohammed Wafa included Kerri Walsh Jennings, Eniola Aluko, LA28 Chief Athlete Officer and Olympic swimmer Janet Evans, IOC Athletes’ Commission Member and BMX athlete Sarah Walker, and more. Several distinguished guests from across the Olympic Movement and international sport were in attendance.
Ruggiero and Creative Director and Fashion industry expert Phoebe Mackay have also launched 4theWalk, a brand dedicated to promoting and supporting female athletes through fashion-forward merch and experience. PARiTY Paris showcases each athlete’s unique style, embodying their spirit, achievements and contribution to this historic moment.
