Qatar Open: Avanesyan advances to second round

Armenian Elina Avanesyan edged out Chinese Xinyu Wang 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (5) to advance to the second round of the Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Sunday evening.

Avanesyan, ranked No 48, will play the winner of the match between No 10 seed Daria Kasatkina and lucky loser Polina Kudermetova next.
