Doha, Qatar – January 2, 2025, Qatar Charity (QC), through its office in Mauritania, has provided essential food assistance to families devastated by floods in the Brakna and Trarza regions. This crucial aid aims to address the urgent needs of those struggling in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
The distribution of food aid took place in collaboration with the Food Security Commission, benefiting 1,000 affected families in the Intekane district.
Speaking at the distribution event, EngineerOmer Abdelaziz Mohamed, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Mauritania, thanked the Mauritanian government, local authorities, and the Food Security Commission for their cooperation and support. He added that the food aid distribution is in line with the guidance of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Charity, to assist the affected families.
1,000 flood-affected families registered with the Food Security Commission in the Brakna and Trarza regions received food baskets containing a month’s supply of essential items.
Local officials and the representative of Food Security Commission thanked Qatar Charity for its crucial support to flood-affected families, emphasizing the aid’s vital role in addressing urgent food needs during this challenging time.
Beneficiaries appreciated the food baskets, highlighting how the aid eased the hardship of displacement and the loss of their homes.
It is worth mentioning that mid-October floods devastated several Mauritanian regions, causing widespread damage and displacing thousands.
