The Gold medal for Best First Class White highlights the excellence of Qatar Airways’ Penfolds Reserve Bin 20A Chardonnay, 2020 from Adelaide Hills, Australia, offered in First Class since December 2024.
The Silver medals recognise the Elderton Command Shiraz, 2020 from the Barossa Valley, Australia, offered on the First Class menu and also the Gerard Bertrand Aigle Royal Chardonnay, 2020, from Limoux, Languedoc, France on the menu in Business Class.
The Bronze celebrates the popular First Class Champagne, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, 2013, from Champagne.
The Cellars in the Sky Awards were held on Monday 10 February 2025 in London, rewarding the world’s top airlines for the best wines carried onboard in 2024. Business Traveller established the awards almost 40 years ago, recognising the growing demand from customers for a unique gastronomic experience at 40,000 feet.
Members of Qatar Airways’ product Development Culinary team, the department responsible for the overall quality and delivery of the airline’s culinary offering, attended the ceremony to collect the awards.
“Qatar Airways is thrilled to have received this respected recognition by the judges,” Qatar Airways senior vice president product development, Xia Cai, said. “We are proud to have won eight accolades, including Best Overall Cellar, acknowledging our continued efforts in providing the very best onboard experience to our passengers.
“We know that travellers are increasingly looking to enjoy their favourite food and wine pairings, and possibly discover new, unique tastes, even at 40,000 feet, and Qatar Airways takes great pride in constantly learning and evolving to cater to customer demand.”
In November 2024, Qatar Airways announced the appointment of its new Master of Wine, Anne Krebiehl, further reinforcing the airline’s commitment to innovation and excellence in gastronomy. The Master of Wine plays a pivotal role in defining the wine sourcing and selection strategy for the airline, to ensure a constant rotation of optimal wines across all cabins, according to shifting passenger tastes and trends.
