This week, Qatar Airways launched its second service to Canada and fourteenth to the Americas with a new route between Doha and Toronto. The service is operating three times weekly using a Boeing 777, and the inaugural flight was flown with one of the 15 Qatar 777s already fitted with high-speed internet from Starlink.
On Wednesday, Qatar Airways flight QR767 departed Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) at 08:39 and, after a 13:50-hour flight, arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) at 14:29. The flight was operated with a 2009 Boeing 777-300ER, registration A7-BAF and MSN 37661 that departed Toronto at 20:26 and arrived in Doha at 15:57 on Thursday.
Qatar Airways (Qatar) has a fleet of 64 Boeing 777 widebodies, including 57 777-300ERs and seven 777-200LRs, with an average age of around 12 years. The aircraft that opened the Toronto route was delivered in December 2009 and has recently been operating on routes from Doha to Melbourne (MEL), New York (JFK), London (LHR), Singapore (SIN), Chicago (ORD), Paris (CDG) and Riyadh (RUH).

Qatar is the world’s first airline to operate Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped aircraft, and it has now fitted the high-speed internet service to 15 of its 777s. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer welcomed Toronto as the second gateway in Canada and the latest destination to join Qatar’s expansive network of more than 170 destinations, adding:

Toronto Pearson serves as a vital hub for global travel, and its role as a gateway for business, culture, and tourism makes it a fitting addition to our network. Qatar Airways is the largest global airline to offer complimentary Starlink WiFi onboard so passengers can stay connected and entertained throughout their journey. According to fleet data from ch-aviation, Qatar has 267 aircraft, including 116 from Airbus and 151 from Boeing, with the Boeing aircraft including 30 freighters. The Airbus passenger fleet comprises A320-200s, A330-200s, A330-300s, A350-1000s, A350-900s and A380-800s. The Boeing passenger fleet includes 737 MAX 8s, 777-200LRs, 777-300ERs, 787-8s and 787-9 Dreamliners, with two 747-400ERF and 28 777-200F cargo aircraft.

The same listing shows that Qatar Airways has 200 aircraft on order, including 50 Airbus A321neos, 18 A350-1000s, 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10s, one 777-300ER, 60 777-9s, 12 787-9s and 34 777-8F freighters. The 777 used on the inaugural Doha—Toronto service is configured in a two-class layout of 354 seats, with 42 seats in business and 312 in the economy cabin.
Toronto Pearson Chief Executive Officer and President Deborah Flint said the airport is excited for Qatar Airways to begin service, and the highly anticipated route from Toronto Pearson International unlocks an exciting range of destinations for passengers looking to fly to the Middle East, Asia and Africa. She added:
“Global connectivity is [of] strategic importance to Canada and to Pearson as the demand for international travel rapidly grows and this route adds to the variety of convenient and accessible flight options for our passengers.”

Toronto is Qatar’s second destination in Canada and supplements the route to Montreal Trudeau International (YUL), which has served more than 1.6 million passengers across seven times weekly flights since its launch in 2011.
