Qatar Airways increases Amsterdam flights to meet winter travel demand

Qatar Airways has announced four additional weekly flights from Amsterdam to Doha. The expanded schedule is intended to cater for what the airline says is “increased demand from passengers travelling from the Dutch capital to sun-soaked destinations.”

14 flights per week over winter

Voted the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2024 for an unprecedented eighth time, the flag carrier is upping its weekly flights between the Dutch and Qatari capitals from 10 to 14 per week for a four and a half month period, beginning 12 November 2024 until 29 March 2025. During that time, 40,000 additional passengers are anticipated to fly hub-to-hub.

As well as being flown on the World’s Best Airline, passengers will find Doha’s Hamad International Airport’s award-winning facilities await them. It too is a consistent winner of Skytrax accolades, such as World’s Best Airport, as well as holding the title for the “Best Airport in the Middle East” for 10 consecutive years, and “World’s Best Airport Shopping” for the second year in a row.

The schedules

From 27 October, the pre-existing winter schedule will operate as usual, flying every day from Doha at 8:15 am and from Amsterdam at 3:05 pm, with further flights on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, from Doha at 6:10 am and from Amsterdam at 12:50 pm.

The newly announced extra flights will fill in those missing midweek slots. Beginning on 12 November, the winter sees the following additional departures every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday:

Doha (DOH) to Amsterdam (AMS) – Flight QR275: Departure 7:55 am; Arrival 1:00 pm
Amsterdam (AMS) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR276: Departure 3:20 pm; Arrival 11:30 pm

Competition for transit passengers

As airlines and airports around the world increasingly compete for profitable transit passengers, Amsterdam is an important “spoke” airport for Doha and for the carrier, especially for passengers coming to and from Asia and Australia, something Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Thierry Antinori, was not slow to point out, describing the Dutch capital as “an integral destination in our European network. We look forward to offering our world-class product and seamless service to travellers from Amsterdam seeking to experience the world through Qatar Airways’ extensive network of more than 170 global destinations.”

The European winter tourism market is also growing, according to Future Market Insights, at “a robust 6% CAGR, with the market valuation reaching US$ 322.35 billion by 2032.” Qatar Airlines will be keen to tap into what analysts say is an increasing interest in Europe’s snowy winter culture, the Nordics and city tours, through Amsterdam as a centrepiece.
