DALLAS — Qatar Airways (QR) announced the inauguration of a new intercontinental route linking Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) with Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). This will be the airline’s second connection to Canada after Montreal.
The airline scheduled the first service between the two cities for December 11, 2024, and will operate up to three weekly flights to Pearson Airport using its lowest-density Boeing 777-300ER planes. These units, carrying up to 354 passengers, feature its state-of-the-art Qsuite cabin with 42 seats laid out across its front cabin.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, CEO of QR, said, “The Toronto route is a strong and enduring commitment towards providing Qatar Airways’ Canadian customers with the enhanced connectivity they deserve, as well as access to our world-leading service and Qsuite in-flight product.”
Apart from the recently announced services to Doha, Canada has forged a consolidated airbridge between its largest cities and the Middle East. Seven airlines regularly operate 13 non-stop routes between the two regions.
Of those, Air Canada (AC) and Turkish Airlines (TK) are the only two that enable this possibility to the Western city of Vancouver (YVR). At the same time, the other five carriers have only been able to reach the East with scheduled flights to both Toronto and Montreal.
With the new flights to YYZ, QR opens a wide range of destinations to Canadian passengers. Through the gigantic hub of DOH, passengers can connect to more than 170 worldwide destinations.
