Beginning this autumn, Qatar Airways will increase the flight frequencies on four of its busiest routes. Due to increased traveler demand for the winter season, the carrier is boosting services to Miami, London, Tokyo, and The Maldives.

A oneworld connection

Three of the destinations announced today are significant thanks to their status as hubs for carriers in the oneworld alliance. From its hub at Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH), Qatar Airways is adding an eighth daily flight to London Heathrow (LHR). One of the most notoriously slot-constrained airports, the space came from a recent deal with Romanian Flag carrier TAROM, which gave up its daily rotation to Bucharest from the British capital.

With the addition of the new slots, Qatar Airways can operate eight daily flights from London to Doha starting on October 27.

The new flights to Heathrow begin on October 27th and supplement two daily services operated by Qatar’s joint business partner, British Airways. Thus, there will be a total of 10 daily flights between London Heathrow Airport and Doha. Qatar Airways is scheduled to use its Boeing 777-300ER on this route, with the departure times as follows:

• Doha (DOH) to London (LHR) – Flight QR109: Departure 09:30; Arrival 14:05
• London (LHR) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR110: Departure 15:30; Arrival 01:10

Across the UK in November, the carrier has up to two daily flights from Doha to London Gatwick (LGW), a daily connection to Birmingham (MHX), double-daily flights to Edinburgh (EDI), and triple-daily flights to Manchester (MAN). Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori highlighted the recent growth:

“Qatar Airways’ is also strengthening its commitment to the UK. Growing to 56 flights a week – the most of any Gulf carrier – further reinforces our long-standing relationship with London Heathrow Airport, as well as our unique strategic alliance with British Airways, which also operates two flights a day to Doha.”

Including the new services, Qatar will offer more than 42,000 seats per week in each direction to Heathrow alone.

The airline also aims to boost its services to a sunny US destination this winter. Beginning December 16th, Qatar Airways will increase flights to Miami International Airport (MIA) from 10 to 12 weekly services. The additions will improve connectivity at both ends of the flight as the new timings increase the number of connections available across Qatar Airways’ departure bank in Doha to locations including Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

The additional frequencies will also boost connections through the Florida Airport. American Airlines operates a significant Latin American hub in Miami, opening up a range of new destinations for passengers traveling via the Gulf carrier. Next February, for instance, American Airlines will become the first international airline to serve South Caicos Airport (XSC) when flights from Miami launch.

Many lounges are not just reserved for travelers in premium cabins.

Both the existing and additional flights are scheduled to be operated with the carrier’s Airbus A350 family of aircraft, which seats 281 passengers in economy and 46 in business class. The newest additions will depart every Monday and Wednesday, beginning in December:

• Doha (DOH) to Miami (MIA) – Flight QR781: Departure 01:20; Arrival 09:50
• Miami (MIA) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR782: Departure 23:30; Arrival 21:05 +1

The oneworld Alliance partnership allows American Airlines’ AAdvantage frequent flyer program members to book flights with Qatar Airways, one of the few remaining Airbus A380 operators. While the airline does not currently operate the double-decker to the US, it can be booked for onward connections to London (LHR), Paris (CDG), Bangkok (BKK), Perth (PER), and Sydney (SYD)

Coincidentally, the airline’s first US passenger flight was 17 years ago.

Another sun-soaked destination getting a boost this December is the idyllic island destination of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. Beginning on December 13th, the carrier will add a fourth daily service from Doha to Malé (MLE) with the following timings:

• Doha (DOH) to Male (MLE) – Flight QR672: Departure 01:35; Arrival 08:15
• Male (MLE) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR673: Departure 20:15; Arrival 23:10

Touching down in Toyko

On the other side of the world, Qatar Airways is boosting its network to Japan. On Valentine’s Day next year (February 14th, 2025), Qatar Airways flights to Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) will increase from daily to 11 weekly flights. The airline indicated the boost is to capture traffic to and from Europe, and it will arrive in time for the famous springtime cherry blossom season.

Thanks to its ongoing codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines passengers can connect to Africa and the Middle East via Doha.

The Airbus A350-900 flights will supplement the existing Boeing 777-ER with three weekly rotations in each direction. From Doha (DOH), flights will depart every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday:

• Doha (DOH) to Tokyo (NRT) – Flight QR808: Departure 20:15; Arrival 11:55

The return leg will depart Japan in the late afternoon and arrive back in Qatar late the same evening on the following days:

• Tokyo (NRT) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR809: Departure 16:25; Arrival 23:10
