Pre-Match

It’s as strong of a lineup as you’d expect for this Champions League Round of 16 first leg. Only notable absence is Cody Gakpo, who made the trip but did not make the bench. Nothing will be decided tonight, but of course it would be a huge advantage taking things back to Anfield either on level terms or ahead.

First Half

It’s a good start for Liverpool. The visitors look dangerous, and it appears that the ball over the top to Diaz is on all day long.

The good start didn’t last very long. PSG have dominated possession after the first five minutes or so, and Liverpool simply cannot get out when they do win back the ball.

PSG appeared to open the scoring, and it would’ve been “coming” so to speak, but thankfully it was chalked off for offside. Liverpool definitely got lucky there. And Liverpool continue living on the edge. Konate very easily could’ve been sent off for an ill-advised challenge, but thankfully VAR did not intervene.

Ali comes up huge with a big 1 v 1 save, and a mad scramble immediately thereafter. Jesus, Liverpool are living dangerously here. It could easily be 2 or 3 nil to the home side.

Thank fuck that half is over. That might be the worst first half in Europe since away to Manchester City in 2018. Liverpool had one “shot” a header from a corner, and that was it. We’re lucky to get in on level terms. I assume Slot is googling if he can make 10 changes at the half (Ali can stay).

Second Half

Slot made no changes at the half, and Liverpool have looked mostly bad. Liverpool have managed to string a few more passes together on the break, but that has unfortunately left us more open when we inevitably lose it. So.

Just after the hour mark, Slot makes his first subs: Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones for Jota (who has been dogshit) and Diaz (equally dogshit).

Endo comes on for Gravenberch (also dogshit), and seriously I’ve never been so happy to see him.

The one player who has not been complete dogshit is Alisson Becker, who keeps pulling incredible saves out of his ass. This could easily be 3-0 without him between the sticks.

Salah, who has also been dogshit, gets hooked for Elliott.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, LIVERPOOL HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD?!

Darwin wins a long ball over the top, holds it up, and lays it off for Elliott who finishes with a hard, low shot!!

Final Thoughts

Holy fucking shit. Every starting player bar Ali was dogshit, and we fully deserved to lose that match. And yet, Harvey comes up with a late winner. Funny sport, this.
