Prospect Watch: A Breeders’ Cup half-sibling, top mare’s final foal

Horse Racing Nation’s Prospect Watch scans all upcoming entries for starters early in their careers who sold for more than $500,000 at their most recent auction or whose dams or siblings are graded-stakes winners.

Among the 71 youngsters who meet the criteria for this report, here are some notable horses, as well as the complete list below.

Friday: 2-time Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Roy H’s half-sibling

In the 8th race at Keeneland, a maiden special weight at 6 furlongs on dirt, trainer George ‘Rusty’ Arnold has the 2-year-old colt White Whale ready for his first career start. White Whale is sired by Hightail and is out of the Elusive Quality mare, Elusive Diva, making him a half-brother to Roy H. Roy H won back-to-back Breeders’ Cup Sprints in 2017 and 2018 and earned Eclipse Champion Sprinter awards each year, too. White Whale is a homebred for Calumet Farm and will have jockey Irving Moncada in the irons.

Thursday

Delta Downs race 6 – No. 3 Map of Donegal is a 2-year-old Liam’s Map colt out of the Johannesburg mare Jazz Tune, who is the dam of multiple graded stakes winner, Rattle N Roll. Donegal Racing owns the colt, who is trained by Dane Noel. Map of Donegal was $200,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale last fall. This maiden special weight contest is at 7 furlongs on dirt and Jose Rodriguez has the ride.

Saturday

Keeneland race 7 features a dozen 2-year-olds going 6 furlongs on dirt and among them is No. 5 Princess Aliyah, a half-sister to Grade 1 Alabama winner Eskimo Kisses. The Into Mischief filly is trained by D. Wayne Lukas for a partnership consisting of BC Stables, Morplay Racing and Joey Platts. Princess Aliyah sold for $1.2 million to BC Stables at last year’s Keeneland September sale. Luis Saez has the ride.

Sunday

Keeneland race 4 – No. 8 Winter’s Legacy is a 2-year-old filly sired by Mendelssohn and is the final foal of Grade 1 winner and fan favorite, Winter Memories. Winter’s Legacy is owned and trained by the same team who brought up her dam, Philips Racing and Jimmy Toner. She makes her debut in a 1 1/16 mile turf maiden special weight that has a full field of 12. Winter Memories won the Diana at Saratoga in her 12-start, $1.2 million-earning career. As a broodmare, she produced the Kazakhstan Derby winner, Make Memories, in 2014. Here’s a look at how Winter Memories’ foals have performed at the races:
