TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees listened to some updates on the proposed golf training facility near RISE Academy.
Construction Project Manager for the Tyler ISD Facility Services Department Cherie Jones said construction would include a 1,927 square foot building, 14 hitting bays, a putting and bunker area, five raised target greens, and 20-foot netting.
“This will be something great to build the golf program,” Jones added. “We have some great sports programs here with Tyler ISD, and we want to continue to see the golf program grow as well.”
Tyler ISD leaders say the practice facility is needed because existing golf clubs are lacking availability or have become too expensive for students.
The district is still in the bidding process and hopes to go back to the board for the thumbs-up soon to break ground.
Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said district employees will have very limited access to the area, adding it is intended for students.
The district would not reveal an estimated cost for the facility, for what Director of Facilities for the Tyler ISD Facility Services Department Tim Loper said is to maintain a competitive advantage.
“We want to keep our competitive level, and we don’t want to jeopardize our bids,” Loper added.
Construction could start as early as next month and could be completed by May of next year.
