CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker will restrict January 6th rioters, pardoned under President Donald Trump, from being employed by the state.
NBC News first reported that Pritzker sent a letter to the director of the Department of Central Management Services, Pritzker said, “No one who attempts to overthrow a government should serve in government.”
“These rioters attacked law enforcement officers protecting people in the Capitol, disrupted the peaceful transfer of power, and undermined bedrock principles of American democracy,” Pritzker said. “Our State workforce must reflect the values of Illinois and demonstrate honesty, integrity, and loyalty to serving the taxpayers.
On his first day in office, Trump issued pardons for 1,500 people who participated in the January 6th, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol building.
More than 50 Illinois residents were affected by the pardons, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“The US Constitution does not grant the President this unilateral authority,” Pritzker said on X. “In Illinois, we will stand against unlawful actions that would harm millions of working families, children, and seniors.”
