PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – The Caribou and Presque Isle Golf teams were back in action today. This time for an 18 hole warmup match at Presque Isle Country Club. The teams will both be competing in the PVC Championship and State qualifier on Saturday at the Course and this is a great way for them to get in a competitive match as they prepare for the championship.
”Our High School matches are all nine holes. In preparation of the 18 hole match at PVC Championship we decided to this match instead of a regular season nine,” said Matt Madore.
”This is fantastic. We are both on harvest break, so the kids aren’t in school. When I saw the schedule early this year I talked to the Athletic Directors and asked if they could switch it and make this an 18 event. We are lucky enough to have the PVC’s in Presque Isle this year,” said Nicholas Blais, “Why not benefit both teams by being able to get and 18 hole match as a practice match. I think it is going to benefit both of us and should help us both be successful there.”
The two teams have had very competitive matches this season and playing head to head one final time should be a benefit for both squads.
”Teams are very well matched. Caribou has had a fantastic season,” said Madore, “We have had a good season also and we are looking forward to this match just to try and separate one of the two.”
”They all know each other and have golfed with each other numerous times,” said Blais, “They know what they can bring to the table and they know it usually comes down to a putt here or there or a chip. Usually very very close matches. We have tied them and come within five or six strokes.”
There will be seven Penobscot Valley Conference B teams competing on Saturday and the lowest scores will advance to the States.
”There are seven teams qualifying for three spots. If you shoot a 340 anybody can qualify. Anybody below 340 automatically gets in,” said Madore.
