WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – President Joe Biden designated a new national monument honoring the first woman Labor Secretary and also took a victory lap for his job creation record over the past four years.
During a visit to the Labor Department, the President was warmly received as he embraced his nickname – Union Joe.
“And I’m damn proud to be known as the most pro-labor administration in American history. Because we are, we are. We make no apologies.”
With just a little over a month before leaving office, Biden said he was proud of the jobs created during his presidency.
“Over 6 million new jobs so far, including 1.5 million manufacturing and construction job. Good paying jobs. You can raise a family. I don’t have to require a four year degree and get this. There are more women, especially mothers in the workforce, than ever before in American history.
Biden also paid tribute to former Labor Secretary Frances Perkins, who served as the nation’s first woman cabinet secretary under Franklin Roosevelt. The President designated a new national monument in Maine commemorating her work as fierce defender of unions and workers rights.
Brenda Malloy-Frances is with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, “I mean, this is a woman who actually was very determined and focused on making a difference in people’s lives.”
The monument and National Park will be built on 57 acres in Newcastle, Maine. It’s where Perkins spent most of her childhood and often returned to as an adult.
