The Duke men’s basketball team just handed Stanford a 36-point loss two days ago, but head coach Jon Scheyer and his squad are already preparing for the next game.
The Blue Devils play the Virginia Cavaliers on Monday night for their third game in six days, and if they play their cards right, they’ll sweep all three games. Duke has looked unstoppable in conference play as well, winning 14 out of 15 games and only losing to the Clemson Tigers on the road in part thanks to a late slip from star freshman Cooper Flagg.
This isn’t the same Virginia team from the first few weeks of January, however. Under interim head coach Ron Sanchez, the Cavaliers have won five of their last seven games to pull back above .500 for the season. Even without the legendary Tony Bennett on the home sidelines, oddsmakers think this Virginia team could keep Duke honest (or at least prevent the score from getting out of hand).
Here’s a look at the pregame odds for Monday’s showdown.
All college basketball odds via BetMGM:
The Cavaliers have been on a hot streak of late, but even with their recent run, the only team they’ve beaten within the top 100 of the KenPom rankings is Pittsburgh, and the Panthers have lost four of their last five. Virginia doesn’t have the defense or the rebounding prowess to keep pace with the Blue Devils. Duke covers, but the over hits.
Prediction: Duke 83, Virginia 64
Duke vs. Virginia will start at 8:00 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN.
