MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Adaptive sports has allowed kids to compete at high levels, and has even grown in popularity over the years in the Minot area.
It’s the same thing as typical sports, only modified to allow people with disabilities to participate.
Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports and Therapy started off with sled hockey, where kids sit on a sled and use their upper body strength to propel them forward.
Over the years, they’ve implemented more sports like wheelchair basketball, gymnastics and fishing programs.
Marketing Director Derek Hackett said kids as young as three years old have participated in some of these sports.
“It is humbling when they get in the court with us because they are very skilled at what they do. It’s a very great workout, and it’s a really great recreation for adults. Anyone 18 and over is free to play as well,” said Hackett.
Prairie Grit currently has sled hockey every Wednesday night at the Y.
They provide everything you’ll need to play.
