POST FALLS — The future of the intersection of Highway 41 and Prairie Avenue Is focused on shopping.
A site review through the city of Post Falls was released Friday concerning Prairie Crossing, a shopping and mixed-use parcel of about 50 acres.
The city has a pending site plan for a McDonald’s on West Prairie Avenue and a retail shell building along Highway 41.
Post Falls community development director Bob Seale said the land and project name were part of a Comprehensive Plan Amendment in 2008 and annexation into the city in 2009 for both commercial and residential developments.
“Prairie Crossing land has changed hands a couple of times, however it later became a small part of the 2018 Urban Renewal Technology District,” Seale wrote in an email.
The initial objective of the technology district was intended to stimulate job creation, development and economic diversification, he wrote.
Prairie Crossing Retail C was proposed as an anchored shopping center/mixed use project serving the intersection transportation hub of Highway 41 and Prairie Avenue and began the city’s subdivision process in 2021. A construction improvement agreement with Post Falls was completed in 2023.
Some of the retail strip buildings will have multiple tenants. A car wash has been proposed, but city officials flagged the wastewater capacity of the location as a potential speedbump.
NAI-Black Commercial, the shopping center’s real estate company, declined to comment.
