COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines, and recording studios are some of the many things you might not expect to find at the Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD). PPLD is holding a job fair, in hopes of filling over a dozen job positions. The fair takes place at Library 21c, located on Chapel Hills Drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Please bring your resume, and we’ll be talking with you about your interests, your goals, what your qualifications are, and see what jobs work for you,” PPLD Director of Organizational Development, Joanna Nelson Rendon said. “Also, if you don’t have those things, our career navigator will be here to help you out, so please come on down. And if you can’t make it today, you can apply online.”
Most of PPLD’s positions are working directly with the public helping them find resources, books, and more. Some they’re offering are within their facility, security, and finance departments.
“We’ve had people leave, we’ve had people retire, and we’ve had people promote,” Rendon explains. “And so, we need to fill these positions so we can keep our buildings open.”
With 15 library locations and a bookmobile hitting the spots where they don’t have buildings, PPLD’s presence within the community is foundational.
“Being part of our community is so important,” Rendon exclaims. “We’ve been told we’re foundational to how our community thrives, and we want to keep being part of that. And so we’re looking for people to help us do that… We get to help people where they are, and one of my favorite events was when we brought in an author, and we got to bring teens from schools all over to meet the author and be inspired. Connecting people with possibilities for their life and career is amazing.”
