After being postponed in late October, the Toys for Tots Kickball Tournament, featuring representatives from the Village of Key Biscayne’s Police Department, Fire Rescue Department, Community Center and Administration, is back on, now combined with a toy drive and a decorated golf cart parade.
The event takes place at the Key Biscayne K-8 Center’s field at 150 West McIntyre Street from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.
The event helps support the U.S. Marines’ worthy cause of bringing smiles to children’s faces during the holidays.
“It’s the one game everyone can play; I think it’s going to be very competitive,” said Police Officer Ellie Del Valle, coordinator of the event.
It will be the first kickball charity event of its kind in the Village.
“Usually, we have a donation box at the (police) station,” she said.
Spectators can bring lawn chairs and coolers, but a couple of food trucks are expected to be in place.
The kickball game will follow a Golf Cart Toy Drive where decorated carts, with passengers bringing unwrapped toys, will travel from the Key Biscayne Presbyterian School, starting at 4:30 p.m., and weave their way to the kickball field.
Residents are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy as an “entry” for the golf cart parade through the Village. Toy Town in the Square Shopping Center is a partner on the golf cart parade and can help those residents looking to participate.
