A Montclair resident sent this postcard featuring the Montclair Golf Club to Frank Louis Kramer, “American Champion Cyclist,” at a Paris, France address in 1914. Kramer (1880-1958) won many cycling championships and was inducted into the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. Although born in Indiana, he grew up in Newark, NJ. He is buried in Orange’s Rosedale Cemetery.
Kramer was best known as a successful sprinter. This postcard may have been sent in reference to his participation in the Grand Prix de Paris, a track cycling sprint race (which he won in 1905 and 1906), but it’s unclear.
The “Postcards From Montclair” series is a collaboration between Montclair History Center and Montclair Local.
