FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – A portion of Golf Course Road in Fairfield County will be temporarily closed due to flooding.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the closure will affect the intersection of Hillcrest Road and S.C. Highway 34.

Commuters are asked to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.

Officials have provided the following tips for drivers who encounter flooded areas:

• Do NOT drive through flooded areas. Even a small amount of water can be dangerous and cause your vehicle to lose control.
• Seek higher ground. Find a safe, dry spot and wait for the water to subside before continuing your journey.
• Follow detours. Always follow posted signs and detour routes, and avoid areas marked as flooded.
• Stay alert. Pay attention to weather warnings and road closures for your safety.
• Remember: Safety first! Stay cautious, stay informed, and stay safe on the roads.
