LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – There are still a few days to get out to the store and stuff those stockings for Christmas.
The final Saturday before the holiday is expected to bring out millions of shoppers.
Local retailers call the final Saturday before Christmas, Super Saturday. According to the National Retail Federation, over 150 million people are expected to do holiday shopping in stores and online.
While heading out to shop, it’s important you know your surroundings.
Local law enforcement like the Lansing Police says people should shop in groups with family and friends, making sure they lock their vehicles. When shopping, keep wallets and purses close to your body to avoid theft. Try and make purchases with cash or one credit card in case of data breaches. Officer Anthony Dean with Lansing police says it’s all about staying aware.
“Make sure you’re familiar with places that you’re going to, and if you’re not, make sure you’re observant and staying vigilant of things that are happening around you and people are you. Looking out for suspicious vehicles, suspicious people, and if you see something, say something,” said Dean.
If you’re still shopping online – stick to retailers you know and have shopped with before. Or check reviews and complaints before making a purchase.
