INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA) – Indianapolis police say an investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a tanning bed at a Planet Fitness location on Monday morning, according to WTHR.
Police say 39-year-old Derek Sink went into the tanning bed at a Planet Fitness on the city’s south side on Friday before being found dead there on Monday.
His family told WTHR the man struggled with addiction issues, and a needle was found in the room with him.
A cause of death has not yet been formally determined.

Sink’s aunt says the family reported him missing on Friday. She said he was wearing an ankle monitor, which later helped investigators find he never left the gym.
The man’s family says they hope to see stricter policies on cleaning and end-of-day checklists for staff to ensure this does not happen again.
A sign posted on the door of the Hardegan Street Planet Fitness on Monday alerted gym members that tanning was currently unavailable.
Planet Fitness management says they are looking into the matter.
