WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The annual Play for Pink golf tournament teed off in a sea of pink on Friday, Oct. 18.
The event raises money to help pay for mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured. Hundreds of women and men participate in the all-day event.
“Here today we are able to go mammograms on site for people who are just in the area for an event or if they live here. A lot of times, we are just a billboard but come on in and check and see if there are appointments that day and we are happy to do them.” Kara Kiscaden, a mammography technologist.
Novant Health brought its mobile mammography unit to the event. The unit travels to doctor’s officers and other locations to make it convenient for women to go in and get screened for breast cancer.
