BANGKOK, Thailand – Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan has defended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s performance at the recent Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit, praising her efforts to attract foreign investment and position Thailand as a strategic hub for food security and data center development. He highlighted her leadership and the positive reception from international counterparts, urging unity in supporting the government’s goals.
Pichai addressed criticism regarding the prime minister’s use of an iPad during speeches, which some have labeled as “iPad Diplomacy,” clarifying that using prepared notes, whether on paper or digital devices, is standard protocol in international forums to maintain accuracy and consistency.
Pichai, who was present at several meetings, stated that the prime minister managed bilateral talks with poise and confidence, including handling complex diplomatic discussions, such as those with Iran. The gatherings resulted in positive responses from countries such as the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, with interest expressed in investing in Thailand’s proposed initiatives.
The commerce minister reiterated that the government is working diligently to attract investment and create opportunities that would benefit the country over the long term. (NNT)
