The Las Vegas Raiders have unveiled the logo for their 65th anniversary season.
The roman numeral for No. 65 (LXV) takes centerstage on the logo. Per the Raiders public relations team, the LX represents the team’s 60 years in Oakland and Los Angeles, and the V denotes the team’s now five years in Las Vegas.
If you break it down even further, the XV part also represents the 15th Super Bowl, when the then-Oakland Raiders beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in January 1981.
The Raiders began play in 1960 in the American Football League as one of eight original franchises. The team then joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger before the 1970 season. The Raiders own three Lombardi trophies, as winners of Super Bowls XI, XV and XVIII. The franchise also won the 1967 AFL title and 2002 AFC Championship.
The 2024 NFL season is a potentially exciting one for the Raiders, who are now under the leadership of head coach Antonio Pierce. The former linebackers coach became the team’s interim head coach after the firing of Josh McDaniels last season.
He then led the Raiders to a 5-4 finish after a 3-5 start, including a road win over the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
