The 2024-25 season is right around the corner and the Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up once again for another run at the title. The Sixers possess some of the top talents in the league and have a trio leading the way on the floor which will keep them in contention for the foreseeable future.
Continuing with a position-by-position preview for the Sixers in the upcoming season, it’s time to look at the small forward spot which is led by new addition Paul George who Philadelphia was able to sign to a 4-year $212 million deal in free agency. The Sixers will be looking to George to make a big difference for them in the coming season.
Here is a preview of the small forward spot for the Sixers:
Sixers fans, meet Paul George. The 9-time All-Star averaged 22.6 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 41.3% from deep in the 2023-24 season for the Los Angeles Clippers and will bring his immense talent to Philadelphia. He will be a perfect complement to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey due to his ability to score in isolations and in spot-up situations.
George’s biggest attribute he can bring to Philadelphia will be his isolation scoring in clutch situations. When the game gets tight down the stretch and the Sixers are having a tough time getting the ball into Embiid, that’s when a guy like George is going to come in handy. He has the length and shooting touch to be able to knock down those tough shots and he can get to the basket.
Council will be looking to make a real impact in the 2024-25 season. The former undrafted forward out of Arkansas will be looking to give the Sixers a versatile option off the bench and give coach Nick Nurse somebody he can continue to rely on. He has been working hard on his game all summer to continue adding to it and he should be a legitimate option for the bench unit.
Edwards will likely spend the majority of the 2024-25 season in the G League with the team’s affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He had a solid season at Kentucky as a freshman, but will now have to continue to develop his game before he can make a serious impact at this level. Blue Coats coach Mike Longabardi should do wonders for him as he did with Council and Terquavion Smith in the 2023-24 season.
