With fires still raging in Los Angeles County, the PGA Tour informed its membership on Thursday that it is monitoring the situation in regards to the upcoming Genesis Invitational.
The signature event, which is hosted by Tiger Woods, is scheduled to be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, beginning on February 13.
“At this point, it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational (February 10-16). Although The Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires, our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities, including all our members who have ties to Southern California,” the Tour wrote to players in a message sent at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday. “We will keep the membership updated as the situation develops.”
Altadena Golf Course, located to the northeast in the city of Pasadena, confirmed on social media that the club had been destroyed in the blaze.
The Palisades fire started on Tuesday in the local area and has since spread across Los Angeles, with five blazes now growing. Two of these, Woodley and Olivas, have been contained by the authorities, but a reported 10,000 acres of land has been destroyed in its path. The Los Angeles Times reported that five people have died, but officials say the death toll is likely to be higher. More than 6,000 structures have burned and at least 130,000 residents are under evacuation orders. High winds helped the fire grow across the region.
Riviera Country Club, which has been selected as host venue to the men’s and women’s golf at the 2028 L.A. Olympic Games, is located in the mandatory evacuation zone implemented earlier this week. The Riv will also host the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2031 U.S. Open.
