OWENSBORO, Ky. – It was an almost ideal way for the Gannon women’s golf team to finish the fall season.
Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) earned the fifth tournament victory of her career, and the Golden Knights placed second among 10 teams on Sunday in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. Gannon finished with a two-round total of 36-over 612, three shots behind tourney champion Maryville, which had 609.
Petersen closed the tournament with the second-lowest 36-hole score in Gannon women’s golf history. Her 2-under-par 142 at The Pearl Club was good for a one-stroke victory as she followed her opening-round 69 with a 1-over 73 on Sunday. Petersen set the record for the low 36-hole total with a 4-under 140 during the 2023-24 season.
Petersen had five birdies on Sunday, including three in a row on holes No. 2-4. She sealed the victory with a 1-under 35 on the back. Petersen is the reigning two-time PSAC champion and PSAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Year.
Gannon freshman Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) continued her outstanding fall season with an eighth-place finish on Sunday. She carded a 10-over 154 total after posting a 3-over 75 on Sunday.
Gannon sophomore Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) added an 11-over 155 after carding rounds of 78 and 77.
Gannon will now look forward to the spring season, where it will pursue its sixth consecutive PSAC team title and a trip to the NCAA Championships.
