PETERSBURG — Virginia State University alum, Don “DB Donamatrix” Brooks, a Los Angeles-celebrity fit pro, and his daughter Tuesdae Donyale will host their annual fundraising dinner in Petersburg on Friday, April 4. One hundred percent of the proceeds from The Benefit Gala go directly to the Petersburg Recreation, Special Events and Volunteerism Department.
Funds raised from the evening aim to raise money to support the department’s programs and services offered to the youth and older adults who reside in the city of Petersburg, reducing the out-of-pocket costs for these residents. According to the press release, in two years over $13,000 has been donated to the city of Petersburg Recreation, Special Events and Volunteerism Department.
The Benefit Gala will be held at the Petersburg Public Library Conference and Event Center from 7-10 p.m. The Red Carpet experience is at 6:30 p.m. To reserve a table, visit donamatrixday.com. The tables accommodate eight comfortably seated.
At The Benefit Gala, four Petersburg area-natives will be honored in the following categories: DON-A-MATRIX TRAINING Icon of the Year, Community Advocate of the Year, High School Athlete of the Year and Collegiate Athlete of the Year. Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, VSU president, will deliver the keynote address at The Benefit Gala.
Mentioned in the press release, since 2018, Petersburg has ranked the worst for life expectancy in Virginia. For nearly a decade, Brooks has collaborated with the city of Petersburg to help improve the overall health outcomes within the city. One of DB Donamatrix’s most famous slogans, “Mind Right. Body Ready,” has motivated thousands around the world to engage in positive rewarding behaviors toward good physical and mental health.
“It feels good to be home and doing what I love,” DB Donamatrix, the Men’s Health Magazine’s Top 40 Fitness Guru, said.
“The Benefit Gala is a wonderful opportunity for the city, Petersburg natives, stakeholders, businesses and allies to become involved with DB Donamatrix’s mission to help reduce the risk of early death, combat health and cancer disparities and increase funding for programs focused on healthy living in the city of Petersburg,” DB Donamatrix’s and Donyale’s press release stated.
The Donamatrix Day Fitness Festival is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Petersburg High School. The annual Fit Fest will feature youth and adult flag football and kickball tournaments, popular local fitness trainers and The Donamatrix Workout. The Fit fest is free for everyone.
