Pete Carroll is taking his first steps as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, a team in need of someone with his experience and Super Bowl-winning pedigree, as he did with the Seattle Seahawks. Recently, during his introductory press conference, a former player from his old team playfully interrupted him.
During the press conference, former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch interrupted Carroll with a loud and clear shout from the back: “RRRAAIDERRRSSSSS!” Lynch earned his only Super Bowl ring playing under Carroll in Seattle.
Carroll joined the Las Vegas Raiders with the goal of turning around the franchise after a series of struggles. As he takes his first steps in the new role, one of the things he mentioned was, “I hope this organization is recognized for the way we run the football and play defense.”
During his press conference, Carroll’s interaction with Marshawn Lynch was brief. However, it’s important to note that Lynch was one of the standout players during Carroll’s tenure with the Seahawks, particularly between 2011 and 2014, which were some of his best years in Seattle.

What is Marshawn Lynch’s connection to the Raiders?
Lynch wasn’t just in the press conference listening to his former head coach—he also had a stint with the Raiders during the final years of his career. Lynch played for the Raiders in 2017 and 2018, starting in 15 games during his first season. Afterward, he began his journey toward retirement, which he officially completed with the Seahawks in 2019.

The deep struggles of the Raiders
Carroll’s arrival, with his wealth of experience, could be seen as a relief for the Raiders, given the ongoing struggles the team has faced in recent years. Since 2021, the Raiders have failed to make the playoffs, and the last time they did, they lost in the Wild Card game against the Bengals. Between 2021 and 2025, the Raiders have had five different head coaches, including Carroll.
