LIBERTY, Mo. (KCTV) – Stores, like HyVee, are seeing increases in foot traffic throughout Friday as people grab what they can to stay safe.
District Store Manager Ina Cavin said they knew Friday would be busy so all employees are working overtime to ensure shelves are stocked with food and safety essentials like ice melt.
“We are fully staffed, we called in extra help, they all got here early, and they’ll stay all day,” she said.
The most popular items include the melt mixture, bread, eggs, and milk.
Max Gibson was visiting the store with his siblings while their parents worked. He said they were getting food just in case of emergency.
“Every aisle you go through, ton of people, and can’t really go anywhere,” he said. “Knowing that we’re going to have enough food for at least this weekend if we’re locked in.”
Rose Roberts normally knocks out her shopping on Fridays but knew she’d have to visit HyVee sooner rather than later to secure what she needed.
WEATHER ALERTS: Winter Storm Warning
“I knew it was about to be crazy,” she said. “I do my shopping at another store as well, Aldi, and it was very stressful. The aisles are quite a bit bigger, so at least they can handle the uptick.”
Cindy Ford picks up groceries for other people while working for DoorDash. She saw the order get bigger and bigger over recent days, which included getting more bananas, bread, and cereals.
“You can tell there’s bad weather or something is going on because activity in this store is really heavy,” she said.
As people pile in to pack their carts, Cavin is focused on ensuring safety in the parking lots, sidewalks, and aisles for all.

They will be open for regular business hours on Sunday.
“During the actual winter storm, anyone that is available to come in still comes in, and if they can’t, it’s totally fine because we want our employees to stay safe,” she said. “We will make sure that the parking lot is cleared and all the sidewalks are salted for customers that are able to make it in. We’ll stay make our store safe as well.”
