WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Pender County Board of Education finalized a change in policy at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The board voted unanimously to mandate that teams designated for women or girls will not be open to male students. A student’s sex, according to the change, would be based on the anatomy that is documented on the student’s birth certificate.
The definition corresponds to the language passed last year by the Republican majority in the General Assembly.
The board also approved changing the process for removing instructional materials if a parent files an objection.
The superintendent can bring together a committee to review the material.. but is not mandated to involve others.
