Pelham city leaders later this month will consider revoking the business licenses of two bars, reportedly for illegal gambling.
The city council has set public hearings for Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. for Lil Bits Tavern, on County Road 52, and Pub 261, on Helena Road. The hearings will take place at Pelham City Hall.
The council will hear testimony on whether the licenses should not be revoked, according to a public notice.
A city spokesperson said Pelham has received reports of bingo games with cash entry and cash prizes taking place at the two businesses – two nights a week at one, and three nights a week at the other.
The reports have only come in recently, she said, and the alleged activity does not include machines.
“Shelby County does not have an amendment allowing for bingo,” the spokesperson said.
Efforts to contact representatives of Lil Bits Tavern and Pub 261 were not immediately successful.
