Despite drawing post 11 in the 12-horse field, two-time
graded-stakes winner Locked was declared the 5-2 morning-line favorite for the
Grade 1, $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational on Saturday at Gulfstream
Park.
The draws for next weekend’s feature as well as the Pegasus
World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) and the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf
Invitational (G2) were done Sunday.

A 4-year-old Gun Runner colt owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred
Partners and Walmac Farm, Locked won his last two starts in 2024, including the
Cigar Mile (G2) on Dec. 7 at Aqueduct. Also the winner of the 2023 Breeders’
Futurity (G1), he will be making the seventh start of his career for trainer
Todd Pletcher. John Velázquez will keep the ride.
Three-time Grade 1 winner White Abarrio, who was eighth in
the 2023 Pegasus, drew more favorably in post 4 and was made the 3-1 second
choice with Irad Ortiz Jr. riding for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
Grade 1 victor Saudi Crown (9-2) got post 2 and 2024 Kentucky Derby winner
Mystik Dan (8-1) post 9 in the two-turn, 1 1/8-mile race.
Señor Buscador and Imagination, both of whom had been in the
final list of 12 invitations to the main field, will not run in the Pegasus.
Owner Joey Peacock Jr. said in an X post Sunday that “our
team was not happy with the way Señor Buscador came out of his work (Sunday)
morning,” so the 7-year-old has been retired to begin his breeding career.
Imagination is expected to be entered by trainer Bob Baffert
into Saturday’s San Pasqual (G2) at Santa Anita.
The Pegasus World Cup is scheduled to start Saturday at 5:40
p.m. EST.
