The Greek 10th seed battled to comeback against the Argentine as he won 6-7(1-7), 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 21 minutes.

Tsitsipas climbed to 11th in the Race To Turin with the success, having only just beaten Cerundolo at the Basel Open.

It has been a tough time of late for Greek ace Tsitsipas, although he does have one tour-level title to his name this season.

His experience certainly came to the fore against Cerundolo in the French capital, with Tsitsipas’s girlfriend and WTA star Badosa really proud of his comeback win.

“I think it was great today, especially what he said the mental side, he fought every moment especially the first set,” she told Tennis Channel.

“Maybe he wasn’t feeling himself great but he did a few adjustments there and it was the correct ones. It was really good!

“At the end I am his girlfriend, I don’t really want to talk about tennis, but I have to say I am proud of how he fought with that and especially the mental side.

“It’s never easy and also when you have all the pressure and expectations in these kind of matches, I think he did great.”

Alexander Zverev ends Stefanos Tsitsipas’s ATP Finals dream

Unfortunately for Tsitsipas, his hard-fought win earned him a quarter-final meeting with third seed Alexander Zverev.

And it was the German who emerged victorious from their clash, with Zverev winning 7-5, 6-4 in Paris, although the Greek is still comfortably winning their career head-to-head battle.

Zverev is the highest-ranked player remaining at the Paris Masters, with second seed Carlos Alcaraz having been defeated by Ugo Humbert in the last 16.

World number one Jannik Sinner meanwhile withdrew from the tournament due to illness, with Novak Djokovic having also pulled out.

After beating Tsitsipas in straight sets, Zverev will now face the winner of the match between Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur.

Tsitsipas meanwhile, after rising to 11th in the year-end race rankings, will now miss the ATP Finals for the first time in six years.
