Four-time NBA All-Star Paul Millsap is retiring, he told ESPN on Tuesday. The forward, who was drafted by the Jazz in 2006 with the No. 47 pick, played for Utah, the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers during his tenure.
Millsap, 39, averaged 13.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for his career on 48.9 percent shooting from the field and 34.1 percent from 3. The Monroe, La., native played a key role on each team he played for, eventually becoming an experienced leader.
Millsap began his career in Utah, where he spent seven seasons contributing to the Jazz and establishing his role. He played in all 82 games three times in his career, including his first two seasons. His best season in Utah came during the 2010-11 campaign, when he averaged 17.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 53.1 percent shooting in 76 games.
Millsap found his stride following his trade to the Hawks in 2013. He made all four of his All-Star appearances while playing for Atlanta, averaging a career-best 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists during the 2016-17 season. In his four-year stint with the Hawks, Millsap averaged 17.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Following a 2017 free-agent signing, Millsap joined the Nuggets. During his four seasons, the veteran leader was a part of Denver’s postseason run to the Western Conference Finals in the NBA Bubble in 2020.
