Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel intends to be “aggressive” in NFL free agency.
New England fans might have a better idea of what that sort of aggression could look like after a report from the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed published Sunday.
The Herald identified four players as “top targets” for the Patriots, citing sources. They are Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.
New England, however, reportedly is doubtful Godwin will leave Tampa Bay. Godwin is viewed as the second-best receiver set to hit free agency behind only Tee Higgins.
All four are ranked inside the top 10 of ESPN’s top 50 impending free agents list. All are figured to command big dollars on the open market and would fill a variety of needs in Foxboro, Mass.

As far as Higgins, those around the league believe the Patriots would be interested if the Cincinnati Bengals star pass-catcher becomes available.
Conflicting reports have surfaced the last few weeks regarding Higgins’ future in Cincy. A previous report indicated the Bengals would use their franchise tag on Higgins if they can’t come to terms on a long-term deal before the tag deadline Tuesday.
While the tag deadline Tuesday is an important date on the calendar, NFL free agency kicks off with the legal tampering period March 10.
