Mike Vrabel and the Patriots might have left the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine second-guessing a few prospects.
Because while there were a handful of players who emerged as winners, there were others whose stock took a hit over the weekend in Indianapolis.
We highlighted a few of those players, as discussed on NESN’s “Foxboro Rush” podcast released Monday.
Will Campbell, OT
Campbell’s athleticism was never the question, and it’s not now after the 319-pounder posted a 3.98-second 40-yard dash (!) with a 32-inch vertical. Campbell’s length, however, could be cause for concern. His arms measured 32 5/8 inches with a 77 3/8-inch wingspan, the latter being viewed as a bigger problem. This isn’t to say Campbell won’t be a great pro, nobody is questioning that. But the Patriots likely will question whether he is worthy of the fourth overall pick, given he fits the mold as a guard and not a tackle. Those questions will be asked at One Patriot Place.
“It’s still possible a team drafting in the top 10 will pick him, but it seems more likely now that he will still be waiting to hear his name called once the picks reach the teens on April 24,” NFL draft analyst Chad Reuter wrote after Sunday’s results.

Tez Johnson, WR
Johnson measured in at the peanut size of 5-foot-10 and 154 pounds. There are seventh graders who weigh more than the Oregon product. And the fact Johnson ran a 4.51 40-yard dash indicates he doesn’t have the speed to get past heavier cornerbacks — Xavier Worthy weighed 10 pounds more and ran a combine-record 4.21. Some 30 wideouts ran faster times than Johnson. Johnson helped himself with the best three-cone drill (6.65) and fourth-best 20-yard shuttle (4.15) but he nevertheless dropped down draft boards with his straight-line speed.
Cobee Bryant, CB
The Kansas product added some weight to his frame (6-foot, 180 pounds) but ran a less-than-stellar 40-yard dash (4.53) with a 1.56 10-yard split. Both metrics ranked 19th among cornerbacks. Only three times were slower than Bryant and all those were posted by bigger corners. His total score ranked 17th among corners who participated at the combine, per Next Gen Stats, as he didn’t participate in the jumps.
Kyle Kennard, Edge
Kennard, who’s met with the Patriots, was figured to be in the conversation as a late-first or early-second round pick. However, after the South Carolina product measured in at 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds and ran a disappointing 40-yard dash (4.73) for his size, his stock might have taken a hit. Thirteen defensive ends clocked a faster 40 time. If Kennard is on the clock in the third round when the Patriots have two picks (Nos. 69, 77), well, that’s a different story.
Gunnar Helm, TE
Admittedly, Helm’s situation was a bit different as he twisted his ankle on a false start in the 40-yard dash. The Texas product finished the drills and didn’t reveal the severity until it was over, which surely will sit well with Football Guys. But his testing numbers greatly suffered with a 4.84 40-yard dash and 30-inch vertical. Hopefully Helm, the fifth-best tight end in the class according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, will have time to heal before his Pro Day.
