Saturday afternoon probably felt like Groundhog’s Day to many NFL fans.
The Kansas City Chiefs opened their latest playoff run with a win over the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium, where the two-time defending Super Bowl champions gritted their way to a 23-14 victory. The triumph sealed a trip to the AFC Championship Game, which has featured the Chiefs in every season since Patrick Mahomes became Kansas City’s starting quarterback in 2018.
Chase Daniel understandably was impressed by Andy Reid’s side extending the streak Saturday. But the former NFL quarterback, who spent three seasons in KC, didn’t convey that message in the most effective way.
“Seven Straight AFC Championships for Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs…..unheard of,” Daniel posted to X.
Of course, “unheard of” wasn’t accurate. The Patriots ripped off eight straight AFC Title Game appearances from the 2011 to 2018 seasons, and New England fans were quick to remind Daniels of that remarkable stretch that netted three Super Bowl titles in Foxboro, Mass. In fact, Daniel received so many replies that he issued a follow-up.

“Guys…I know the Patriots did it lol. Relax,” Daniel posted to X.
Unfortunately for New England fans, Kansas City still has a chance to do something never achieved by the Patriots or any other NFL franchise. Two more victories would make the Chiefs the first team in history to claim the Lombardi Trophy in three consecutive seasons.
