On Tuesday, Britain‘s women’s team fell agonisingly short in the gymnastics, with the quartet of Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Ruby Evans, and Becky Downie scoring 164.263 points – only 0.234 behind Brazil‘s score.
They finished in fourth, with the Brazilians pipping them to bronze. Of course, a Simone Biles-inspired Team USA won gold, with Italy taking silver. Downie said: “It’s a shame it didn’t go our way today.”
But in the swimming, the men’s 4x200metre freestyle team retained Olympic gold in dominant fashion. James Guy, Tom Dean, Matt Richards, and Duncan Scott led for much of the race won in a vociferous La Defense Arena.
Scott, who fell agonisingly short of the medals as he finished fourth in the individual event the previous night, secured the gold with a rapid anchor leg.
