A four-member Australian golf contingent, including former PGA Championships winners Hannah Green and Jason Day, will be in action at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Siblings Minjee Lee and Min Woo Lee will also be in the fray to hunt for Australia’s first-ever Olympic medal in the sport.
The golf competition at Paris 2024 will be held from August 1 to 8 at the Le Golf National venue in Guyancourt, France.
Hannah Green finished tied fifth at Tokyo 2020, the best-ever showing by an Australian golfer at the Olympic Summer Games. Green won the Women’s PGA Championship in 2019 and has already won two LPGA Tour events this year.
Jason Day, who will be making his debut at the Olympics, previously turned down the opportunity to feature at the Rio 2020 Games, when he was ranked world No. 1. He has 13 career PGA Tour titles including a major – the 2015 PGA Championship.
Minjee Lee is set to appear at the Games for the third time, having previously participated in 2016 and 2020. She will become the only Australian golfer to make three appearances at the Olympics.
Min Woo Lee, Minjee’s younger brother, is the reigning Australian PGA champion and achieved a career-best world ranking of No. 31 in March 2024. The Lees are all set to become the first siblings from Australia to participate in Olympic golf.
Golf was a part of the 1900 and 1904 Olympics. The golf tournament at London 1908 was cancelled two days before the scheduled date and following that, the sport was left out from the Olympic curriculum for over a century before it was reinstated at Rio 2016.
The United States of America (USA) have bagged 13 medals, including five golds, in Olympic golf. No other country has won more than three medals in the sport so far.
