PANAMA CITY BEACH — A man has been arrested and accused of driving under the influence after a Tuesday night crash that critically injured two teenagers riding in a golf cart.
A news release from the Florida Highway Patrol says this all happened about 9 p.m. in PCB’s Bay Point neighborhood.
A 16-year-old girl was driving a golf cart with a passenger, a 15-year-old girl. Both are from Panama City Beach. They were westbound on Wahoo Road near Trout Drive.
A 61-year-old man driving a pickup truck crossed the center line of Wahoo Road and entered the opposing lane of travel, colliding with the front of the golf cart, according to the release. This resulted in the golf cart travelling east until until it came to rest in the westbound lane of Wahoo Road, facing west.
The man, identified in the news release only as a 61-year-old Panama City Beach resident, was taken into custody, charged with driving under the influence/causing serious bodily injury, according to the release.
The girls were taken to the hospital. The release said they suffered critical injuries.
The FHP news release adds that the truck was removed from the roadway before law enforcement arrived. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Bay County Fire Rescue and Bay County Emergency Medical Services assisted FHP at the scene.
