Pakistan Test team head coach Jason Gillespie has refused to travel to South Africa to join the squad for the upcoming two-Test series. According to Cricbuzz, he has sent his resignation letter to the PCB. He was miffed with the board for removing assistant coach Tim Nelson.
The decision-makers were not in favor of extending Nelson’s contract, which didn’t go down well with Gillespie, and he started to re-evaluate his association with the PCB.
Gillespie said no to traveling to South Africa to join the Pakistan National Cricket Team. His resignation is likely to be accepted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The PCB is likely to appoint an interim coach for the red-ball matches.
The first Test will be played in Centurion on December 26. The second game is scheduled in Cape Town from January 3.
Earlier, Gillespie coached Pakistan’s white-ball teams in Australia after the sudden departure of Gary Kirsten. Kirsten was appointed as the head coach in shorter formats before the T20 World Cup 2024, but he was not getting freedom, and his suggestions were overlooked, forcing the legendary cricketer to leave the team.
Pakistan won the ODI series in Australia but were defeated in T20Is.
